Today marks the beginning of United Kingdom Baseball League's free agent filing period. With it comes the uncertainty of an offseason filled with the potential for blockbuster signings, off-the-wall trades, and a mad scramble to improve your club before you get left out in the cold.
General managers have the entire offseason in which to sign free agents. The biggest names on this year's market include:
1. James Weiss, 32 year-old starting pitcher
2. Norman Wilmes, 32 year-old first baseman
3. Donald Jorgensen, 32 year-old starting pitcher
4. Donald Baptista, 28 year-old starting pitcher
5. Stanley Blackmore, 25 year-old center fielder
6. Gene Frakes, 35 year-old catcher
7. Larry Bury, 30 year-old right fielder
8. Kenneth Lowrie, 26 year-old starting pitcher
9. Roberto Lopez, 31 year-old starting pitcher
10. Rodney Harris, 32 year-old reliever |
 | Tuesday, November 22nd, 2033: Star SP Signs Pact with Rough Riders
The Santa Fe Rough Riders have finalized a deal with All Star-caliber starting pitcher Júlio Muncloa that will extend his stay in Santa Fe at least 3 years and will pay out $15,930,000.
Since joining the league, Muncloa has compiled an ERA of 3.35 with a career record of 40-22. He has 462 strikeouts in 550.1 innings and has held opponents to a .258 batting average. |
| Sunday, November 20th, 2033: UKBL News: Arbitration Hearings
The winners and losers in the yearly battle known as salary arbitration will soon be determined, as United Kingdom Baseball League salary arbitration hearings are held today. All players who have filed for arbitration, but have not yet signed a new contract, will have their cases heard by the end of the day.
The final verdicts will be announced tomorrow. |
